Another Brick in the Wall

Passers-by of the new Elyria High School site will notice the walls getting taller and the campus getting broader as work continues over the summer months. The attached vocational building on 5th Street that once housed special education rooms and offices is being demolished to make way for the new athletic complex. The Washington Building still stands ready to serve students this coming school year but will begin to see clean-up to the stone facade at the West peak and roofing work this summer. Heavy Masonry and concrete work continues on the new academic wing bordered by Middle Avenue, West Avenue and 7th Street.
A color committee has been assembled to plan interior brick, mortar, flooring and carpet colors. Soon the district will make decisions on loose furnishings, including student desks and tables, and technology packages.
Students will move into the new academic wing in the fall of 2010 and the entire campus is slated for completion in 2011-2012.
